I planned to go climbing on the weekend, but it threatenned to rain, so the trip was cancelled.
Quise ir de escalada el fin de semana, pero amenazoo lluvia, asi que cancelaron la excursion.
On Friday I’ll give a seminar, I hope it will go well. El viernes daree una charla, espero que vaya bien.

Anyway, met Monica, Spanish girl (looks eerily similar to my friend Elena), she goes to the cinema a lot. Went to see Tristan Shandy with her on Thursday, Sunday it will be “The secret life of words”, Spanish movie. He conocido a Monica, una chica espannola, se parece mucho a Elena. hemos ido a ver una pelicula inglesa, Tristan Shandy, y mannana iremos a ver una espannola, La vida secreta de las palabras.
Joined climbing ANU club, just in time for the wall to close for 3 weeks. Apparently they use that room for exams this time of the year. Me apunte al club de escalada de la universidad, y justo van a cerrar el muro de escalada por 3 semanas. Usan ese gimnasio para los examenes de fin de curso.
Got bicycle, a fairly old one. I am now buying bits and pieces for it: lights, reflectors, bell, rack, basket… I may get some of it from the ANU bike coop, but so far I only had promisses about this. Me compre una bicide segunda mano, ahora estoy comprando todos los accesorios: luces, reflectores, timbre, porta, cesta,… Puede que me presten alguna de estas cosas en la cooperativa de la universidad, pero por ahora todo han sido promesas.
Work is OK, I am having interesting ideas, but I still feel very alone with them. Need to give a couple of talks soon, see if I atract anybody’s attention. El trabajo, asi asi. Estoy teniendo ideas interesantes, pero me siento sola con ellas. Tengo que dar un par de charlas pronto, a ver si consigo interesar a alguien en el tema.
Chris, my flatmate, is wonderful. Living with her is really very easy. Chris, mi compannera de piso, es estupenda, es muy facil compartir con ella.
21/10/2006 Weekend walking around CanberraThe walk starts at the garden: it is spring here, these lovely azaleas are in bloom.
El paseo empieza por el jardin. Aqui es primavera, con azaleas blancas en flor.
Here is a photo of the park I cycle through on the way to work. Esta es una foto del parque cerca de casa. Paso por aqui en bici de camino al trabajo.
On the lake, black swans. Y aqui estan los cisnes negros, especialidad de Australia.
There is also a pelican, tambien hay un pelicano.

I’d like to put here some of the Australia photos and stories. Me gustaria poner aqui mis historias y fotos de Australia.
Last Sunday (17/10/2006) I went hiking with Bob Dewar. La semana pasada hice una marcha con Bob Dewar.
<>We went to Square Rock, in Tidbinbilla National Forest, near Canberra. We walked through burnt eucaliptus forests. There was a huge fire near Canberra some years ago. The eucaliptus forest recovers quickly. Fuimos al parque nacional de Tidbinbilla. Caminamos por un bosque de eucaliptus, muchos quemados. Hace unos annos hubo un gran incendio cerca de Canberra, los eucaliptus se recuperan muy rapido.

There are rockclimbers here, it is very nice pink granite, like Enchanted Rock in Texas. The view is a bit like the escarpment Phil and I went to in Ghana. Aqui hay escaladores, la roca es granito rosa, como en la Pedriza, en Madrid.
Later we went to a Wildlife refuge. Luego visitamos brevemente una reserva.
There we saw this emu (it is large!) and many kangoroos. Alli vimos este emu (grande!) y varios canguros.
